BATON ROUGE, LA AUGUST 4, 2010: The Emmitt Spurlock Memorial Foundation (ESMF) and Project New Direction announced a new education initiative this morning.

Beginning this fall, the groups will collaborate to provide out-of-school youth and adults with the opportunity to obtain their High School Diploma. The students will receive their High School Diploma from Ashworth College. The partnership allows each entity to leverage their area of expertise to meet the holistic needs of at-risk students.

In announcing the partnership, ESMF President Pastor Gus Spurlock expressed his excitement about the opportunity the new partnership will present for evolving education in Baton Rouge.  “We believe we will provide students in Baton Rouge with a new source for life-long learning”, said Pastor Spurlock.

The Project New Direction Academy will be located in the ever reviving Old South Baton Rouge neighborhood. Classes will begin the first week of September and will take place at Fairview Baptist Church, 1636 Braddock Street.
